Teal is in the 2nd year of graduate studies at George Fox Masters of Social Work program. Teal's previous studies were at Portland State University with an emphasis on Psychology and Dance. Following a Master's degree in applied psychology in Child and Adolescent Development from Adler University.

Prior to this graduate program, Teal worked at the Children’s Center which provides mental health services to children in need in Vancouver, Washington. Previous to mental health services, Teal's employment included Portland Public Schools, children’s yoga/movement centers, and other nature-based educational programs.

Philosophy of Approach:
Teal's practice focuses on Synergetic Play Therapy with a blend of directive and non-directive, psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and art/movement based therapies. Synergetic Play Therapy uses the research behind interpersonal biology, neuroscience, and co-regulation as the foundation to healing. Through this practice between the adult and the child, the re-patterning of the nervous system begins. In this practice, only when children feel safe and attuned with their adult will change in behavior occur.

Teal believes that therapy is an opportunity to take accountability for our actions, learn to re-pattern our nervous systems, and grow stronger from the unbelievable circumstances that life has given us. Children survive through the world the way they know best, as adults, it is our responsibility to guide and support them, encouraging them to be their most authentic self.

Supervision:

During the internship with Connections First, Teal will practice under the clinical supervision of David Ryan, LCSW. David can be contacted through email at this address: David@connectionsfirst.org

Teal adheres to the code of ethics set by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.
